Comedy review: Pat Burtscher’s Patopotamoose, Pleasance Courtyard (Venue 33), Edinburgh

Pat Burtscher’s been plagued by a snoring flatmate and, in the show I saw, a Christian in the front row taking exception to his musings on God.

Pat Burtscher’s Patopotamoose

Pleasance Courtyard (Venue 33)

Star rating: * *

But that’s no excuse for the irritability the Canadian sustained through his hour, the young woman’s brief interruption and the subsequent butting of heads enlivening an underpowered series of laboured “what if?” thoughts on existence.

Burtscher has a refreshing refusal to indulge life on its own terms, and there’s some funny, off-kilter philosophising. But as with his prematurely conceived Patopotamoose theme, he struggles to follow things through, occasionally descending into a brooding sulk.
