Euan Sutherland, the Scots-born former boss of the Co-operative Group, is joining soft drinks firm Britvic.

The maker of brands such as Fruit Shoot, Robinsons and Tango said Sutherland – now chief executive of fashion business SuperGroup, will become an independent non-executive director at the end of this month.

Sutherland resigned from scandal-hit Co-op in March 2014, arguing that the group had become “ungovernable”. He became chief executive of SuperGroup, owner of the Superdry label, seven months later.

Britvic also named Sue Clark, managing director of European operations at brewing giant SABMiller and a former director of corporate affairs at ScottishPower, as a non-executive.

Chairman Gerald Corbett said: “Euan brings strong retail sector knowledge and general management and marketing experience. Sue has headed up corporate affairs at a number of large British companies and her latter experience running SABMiller Europe places her in a unique position to contribute to the development of Britvic.

“They are both strong additions to the Britvic board as we look to continue to develop our business in the UK and internationally.”
