Case ‘remains open’ over missing Ark missionary

THE brother of a Scottish Christian missionary who vanished two years ago while looking for Noah’s Ark has been assured by Turkish prosecutors the case is “still open”.

Derick Mackenzie has travelled from his home in Stornoway to Turkey in a bid to solve the disappearance of his 47-year-old brother, Donald.

The missionary, known as the “raider of the lost ark” was last seen on Mount Ararat on 28 September, 2010. His family suspect he may have been murdered for preaching Christianity in the
Islamic country.

Derick Mackenzie has been updating an online blog daily and his latest post states: “A couple of men told me today very emphatically they believed that Donald was more than likely murdered by people who were ‘mad’ because he was giving out Bibles. Then shortly afterwards, another man told me not to take it seriously.

“As the prosecutor said today: ‘The case of Donald Mackenzie is still open.”

Derick is retracing his brother’s footsteps, accompanied by Edinburgh-based Plainview Films, which is making a documentary about his mission.

He added: “I hope to get some answers. We want closure.”
