Police target teenage drinkers

POLICE have warned of a clampdown on under-age drinkers at a beauty spot in Dunbar this summer.

Town beat officer Pc Kevin Hughes told a meeting of community watchdogs last week that brighter evenings inevitably would be accompanied by youth drinking at John Muir Country Park (JMCP) and he said that this was often with parents' consent.

He said: "We have information regarding youths drinking in JMCP. It happens every year and we'll be giving it attention. It's bottles they're leaving behind and they're setting camp fires as well.

"Something that happened last year, which I like to try to keep on top of, was parents dropping off youths, who were quite clearly under-age, with a carry-out. Even the parents know what they're doing and they're allowing it to happen."

Pc Hughes said trip hazards, low branches and water made the park particularly hazardous for intoxicated young people.
